I had a great run practicing law for 30 years, now doting on my amazing wife of 36 years and our two fantastic kids - Russell, 31, now getting his LLM in Intellectual Property at Cardozo Law School, and Marlena, 29, a Columbia University grad and former nationally ranked tennis player, who now coaches college tennis while running her own social media/marketing company.
My wife Dawn is retiring after 35+ years of teaching high school German and Algebra in a top high school in Coral Springs. This exposure provided great comparative insight and reflection to my "Beach" years and my former classmates and friends along the path. One thing is saliently clear - those earlier years were very special and "dynamite" in terms of the kind of kids you were (and are) compared to the succeeding classes I've witnessed.
In a nutshell, I'm really grateful for the ride. Thank you!

I've lived in New Mexico since 1976. Self employed for most of those years, I've been a jeweler, a college instructor, and floral wholesaler.

Recently retired, I look forward to returning to my artistic past.

I am a Florida Bar board certified elder law attorney, practicing in Broward County since 1991.  I now have 2 offices, one in Margate, and a second one in Pompano Beach.  My husband Cliff Lakin, M.D. (Beach High Class of 1961), unfortunately, is afflicted now with Lewy body dementia and is no longer practicing medicine.
Our 3 kids are: (1) Gregory Lakin, M.D., a plastic surgery in Cleveland, Ohio at Case Western Reserve University where he is chief of plastic surgery at Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital - his wife Margaret is a nurse practitioner; (2) Cara Lakin, a reading teacher in Orlando; and (3) Douglas Lakin, who has profound cognitive and other developmental disabilities and who lives in Fort Lauderdale at the Ann Storck Center.
I remain very active in elder law issues but also in issues pertaining to developmental disabilities.  In 1995 I helped to found Florida's Voice on Developmental Disabilities, an all-volunteer statewide advocacy and networking non-profit for families and friends of persons with developmental disabilities.
I find it difficult to fathom that 50 years have gone by since graduation from Beach High....sometimes it feels very recent, sometimes it feels like centuries ago.
Life does indeed humble us.  I certainly hope that all of my classmates have had
wonderful, fulfilling lives and will continue to be in good health and happy.

I never imagined I would be this old. Since Miami Beach, I've lived in Princeton, NJ, Rochester, NY, Washington, DC, Boston, MA, Tucson, AZ, Los Angeles, CA, Charlottesville, Crozet, and Schuyler, VA, and now Wake Forest, NC. I'm married for the third time to a wonderful woman who grew up in South Miami but we met only 5 years ago. I've had more interesting careers than anyone has a right to - urologic radiologist. physiology researcher, health services researcher, chairman of radiology at UVA, chair of a $200 million National Cancer Institute clinical trials group, and editor of three medical journals. I'm working half time now on the last of these and have begun to write non-medical books. My first was released miid-April, 2015 and is a creative non-fiction book titled, The Man Who Stalked Einstein. It's selling pretty well. A Plague on All Our Houses - a book about the discovery of AIDS as seen through the eyes of the discoverer - is due out in the fall of 2016. Send Bruce a MessageSend Bruce a Message
